Meet The Owners

Bruce Halloran

Bruce has developed his coaching skills over the past 20 years of swimming and coaching in the local area.  Swimming to National level for East Lothian Swim Team, Bruce retired from competitive swimming to become the Head Coach of Tranent ASC before taking on the Head Coach role at East Lothian Swim Team.

Bruce now coaches at international level, with Stephen Clegg of ELST achieving qualification for Rio 2016, and now numerous youth swimmers from the ELST programme achieving accolades at Scottish and British championships, as well as coaching on Scottish National Programmes. Bruce's passion for swimming and his desire to see every swimmer having the opportunity to achieve their goals, he and Cameron came together to set up Next Stage Swimming in 2015.

Bruce is also passionate about coach education, working with the younger coaches and seeing the next generation of homegrown coaching being developed. To this end, Next Stage has thrown open it's doors to any coaches looking for experience to get involved.

Cameron Smith

Cameron began his own swimming journey some 20 years ago.  Progressing through the local clubs and East Lothian Swim Team, Cameron then spent five years swimming at an international level for the University of Edinburgh Performance Swim Team.  Achieving notable accolades such as Scottish and British Championship gold medals and representing Great Britain the 2010 LEN European Cup.

In 2015 Cameron returned to East Lothian as a coach, motivated to give back to the sport he loved.  Passing on his knowledge of swimming at an elite level, while aiming to inspire the next generation of swimmers. Cameron excelled in his roles as Head Coach of Musselburgh ASC and as a squad coach at ELST, coaching swimmers to achieve national records as well as international representation.

Setting up Next Stage Swimming with Bruce in 2015, Cameron is always keen to be on poolside working with the swimmers and the Next Stage coaches.

Meet The Team

The Next Stage Story

Next Stage Swimming was founded by Bruce and Cameron in 2015 on two core beliefs; to provide the very highest quality of swimming lessons and to inspire young swimmers with a passion for the sport that can last a lifetime.

Recognising the difficulty many swimmers face when making the jump from lessons to swimming clubs, Bruce and Cameron developed a program to improve this transition.

Through the combination of highly qualified, experienced instructors and a structured lessons program that progressively integrated club-level skills, Next Stage Swimming became the ideal location for young swimmers to improve.

Next Stage Swimming has worked hard to ensure that our content complements our local swimming clubs entry expectations.  Through doing this, strong links have been built with two of these local clubs; Haddington & District ASC and Musselburgh Amateur Swimming Club.

Swimming continues to have a huge positive impact on both Bruce and Cameron’s lives, and their ambition is to create an environment where the sport can have the same effect on others.

Through our lessons, camps and technical clinics, Next Stage Swimming has already had a positive impact on many swimmers from the local area and further afield. Check out our upcoming events, get in contact if you have any questions and join the team.
