Learn-to-Swim Programms

At each stage of your child's learn-to-swim journey Next Stage Swimming provide the very best environment for young swimmers to improve.

 

Through our three core learn-to swim programs we carefully nurture stroke technique and skills.

Beginners

  • Fun and high-quality lessons for non-swimmers and beginners aged 4+. 

  • Developing water confidence and the essential swimming foundations.

  • Giving children the very best start to their swimming journey.

First Steps

  • Small classes with a focused and enjoyable learning environment.

  • Carefully building the technique and skill required for each swimming stroke.

Progression 

  • Progressive sessions through three stages to continually develop swimming ability.

  • Challenging swimmers over longer swimming distances while integrating club level skills. 

  • Progressing swimmers ability and confidence to a level that can confidently step into "club level" swimming.

Beginners

  • For children aged 4+.

  • Safe entry/exit of the pool.

  • Comfortable with water shower.

  • Blowing bubbles.

  • Float on front and back with support.

  • Supported kick action for 5m.

  • Push and glide with support.

Water Confidence

Beginner | Level 1

  • Comfortable with face in the water

  • Kick on front/back unaided for 5m.

  • Push and glide without support.

  • Jump in from side.

  • Perform 3 different float positions with support.

Body Position Foundations

Beginner | Level 2

  • Travel 10m front crawl kick.

  • Travel 10m back crawl kick.

  • Attempt symmetrical breaststroke kick movement.

  • Attempt butterfly kick movement.

  • Demonstrate 3 float positions without support.

  • Demonstrate a streamlined push and glide.

  • Retrieve object from the bottom of the pool.

Kick Foundations

Beginner | Level 3

  • Travelling up to 10m on their front and back

  • Introducing side breathing

  • Kicking in streamline position

  • The initial stages of diving: Building confidence through completing safe jumping entries

First Steps | Step One

  • Kicking 15m on Breaststroke, Front & Back Crawl.

  • 5-10m Butterfly Kick.

  • Swimming 10m Front & Back, 5m of Breaststroke.

  • Introducing seated dives from poolside

First Steps | Step Two

  • 25m Front Crawl with a good attempt at rotation and high elbow.

  • 25 Back Crawl with a good attempt at the rotation, ensuring the arm action is correct.

  • 15m Breaststroke with a good attempt at sweeping wide at the front of the stroke, then kick with even legs.

  • 10-15m Butterfly Kick on front and back.

  • Introducing Kneeling Dives from poolside

  • Perform a summersault.

First Steps | Step Three

  • 50m Front Crawl with a good attempt at rotation and high elbow.

  • 50m Back Crawl with a good attempt at the rotation, ensuring the arm action is correct.

  • 25m Breaststroke with a good attempt at sweeping wide at the front of the stroke, then kick with even legs.

  • 15-20m Butterfly Kick on front and back.

  • Streamlining off the dive and off the wall after attempting turns.

  • Standing dive from the poolside..

Progression | Stage One

  • 75m Front Crawl with good rotation and high elbow, using the full arm's length while pulling.

  • 75m Back Crawl with good rotation, ensuring an attempt to maintain a straight arm recovery & a bent arm pulling actions is observed.

  • 50m Breaststroke, performing a strong sweep & catch action and starting to demonstrate an understanding of timing between kick & pull actions.

  • 25m undulating fly kick & an understanding of fly arm action.

  • Good streamlined push offs, from tumble turns and touch turns.

  • Complete a dive from poolside in either grab or track start position.

Progression | Stage Two

  • 100m Front crawl with good rotation, high elbows, strong small kicks and using the full length of the arms whilst pulling.

  • 100m Back crawl with good rotation, correct recovery and pull actions and strong small kicks continuously.

  • 75m Breaststroke, performed with a strong sweep & catch action, a well-timed stroke and finishing each length with two hands.

  • 25m Butterfly with straight arm recovery, demonstrating an understanding of timing between the arms and legs.

  •  Streamlining push offs to 5m, from tumble turns and touch turns.

  • 5-10m streamlined fly kicks underwater, after a dive from poolside.
